Who We Are
The Hidden Place exists to reach children with the gospel and walk with them in their journey towards becoming more like Christ. |
The Hidden Place is a non-profit organization which exists to reach children with the gospel and walk with them in their journey towards becoming more like Christ. A major outlet through which this happens is week-long camps. We provide camps twice a year during local school holidays. The children that attend our camps are from primary schools in the townships of Alexandra, Soweto, and Tembisa. Many of our children are from child-headed households and have had little or no exposure to the gospel of Christ. During camp, we do our best to show them the love of Christ, first through meeting physical needs. The children who attend our camps do so free of charge, thanks to generous donations from both Americans and South Africans. Upon arrival at camp, our children receive a camp t-shirt, a bag of toiletry items, a snack box & juice bottle, along with towels and bedding to use during the week. While we care for physical needs, we know that the greatest need is the need for a relationship with Christ.
Our camp staff is compiled of volunteers from local townships and suburbs, as well as from the United States. During camp, the children are able to take part in large group worship sessions, small group bible studies, games, crafts, swimming, and various other activities. We desire to provide these children with an opportunity that many of them may never have otherwise. By taking children out of their every day environments, where they often face many challenges, we are able to share the gospel with them in a safe and loving environment.

While camps are a major part of who we are as an organization, our desire is for these events to be a springboard towards true discipleship. Many of our children are currently living in difficult situations, both physically and emotionally. While we cannot change many of the aspects of their daily reality, we can join them in walking out a relationship with Christ, which is where true hope is found. Our goal is to continue building relationships with our children and their families after camp is over. We do this currently through follow up events, area small groups, and training for those who desire to become involved in a leadership capacity in our ministry.
